Ken Blackwell -- who cited "the attack on ... natural marriage" as a reason for the May 23 mass murder in Isla Vista, California -- has longstanding ties to the National Rifle Association.
Blackwell, who is also a senior fellow at anti-gay hate group Family Research Council, was flagged by People for the American Way's Right Wing Watch linking gay marriage to the killing spree that left six dead. From FRC's radio show:
BLACKWELL: When you see there's a crumbling of the moral foundation of the country, you see the attack on the -- on natural marriage and the family that has been a part of the, not only the moral foundation and the upbringing of our children but the teaching of sexual roles and the development of human sexuality in our culture. When these fundamental institutions are attacked and destroyed and weakened and abandoned, you get what we are now seeing and that is a flood of these disturbed people in our society that are causing great, great pain. And as opposed to dealing with the foundational problems, we look for ways of blaming the Second Amendment, or blaming knives or blaming cars when they are used. At the end of the day, you have just underscored the problem. This is a convenient way of avoiding talking about what's at the root cause. Full story here at Media Matters for America.
Although the results are varied and reflect the cultural contexts of the regions in which respondents live the overall message is that homophobia among football supporters seems to be a diminishing, albeit slowly, problem.
The anonymous poll, organised by Stonewall, the leading equality charity, and Football Addicts, the Swedish developer of the app Forza Football, asked fans if they would be comfortable were a player in their national team to come out as gay.
Football Addicts says it is the largest such survey to ever been conducted as 30,000 fans in 29 countries responded. The results from those in which fewer than 500 did have been discounted HERE
Justin Bieber has just donated over a half of a million dollars towards finding a cure for AIDS at the amfAR gala charity ball in Cannes.
Is this about improving his image or does he need to dump some money for taxes purposes? What do you think? Comment below!
From Gay Star News:
Justin Bieber has donated $545,000 towards HIV research, matching another donor’s donation at the amfAR gala charity ball in Cannes on Thursday.
Jody Hice, pastor, talk radio host, and one of the Republicans in a runoff to replace Rep. Paul Broun (R-GA), argued that the gay community had a secret plan to attract and sodomize children.
That's according to Hice in his 2012 book "It's Now or Never: A Call To Reclaim America." The claim was highlighted by Mother Jones on Wednesday.
Hice (pictured) also likened people in same-sex relationships to incest or bestiality.
"People love all kinds of other people and things, but that does not grant permission for marriage," Hice wrote. "It is illegal to marry a child or a sibling. It is illegal to marry a pet, which many people love dearly." More here
